LA CASA ROSA in the heart of Old China Town became a famous restaurant in the late 1930's when Sally Stanford came from "the red light" district in Sausalito to San Juan Bautista to live a more quiet life. Her simple California casserole recipe is still served here today. San Juan Bakery made her Casa Rosa Rolls long after she retired. One of the most authentically kept buildings in town, Casa Rosa has served many celebrities; Kim Novak returned many times since 1957 when she made Vertigo with Jimmy Stewart and Alfred Hitchcock here. This building carries on the cottage industry tradition of a family living and working in the same space - thus sharing an historic setting of home and garden with visitors to town.
