CRANE HOUSE Today home with the slanted roof line at the corner of Polk and 2nd streets reflect the historic past of this wood frame home built the McMahon Family from the United States of America in 1835. In 1857, the wife of George Crane, the young widow Encarnacion Ortega Sanchez bought and moved here. Her family members remained in title until 1997; their story is told in The Treasurers of Sanchez and on the website AmericaHurrah.com. Ox-Cart Tavern, an outside butcher shop and barbecue area was a stopping place in Early California for travelers and town’s people alike.
