MASONIC HALL This Italianate Revival building has been home to San Juan City Hall, US Post Office, the telegraph and telephone companies, Wells Fargo Agency, San Juan City Library, and San Juan Bautista Historical Society and home after 1865 to Texas Lodge, No. 46, Free and Accepted Masons which was founded here in 1854. Before the Civil War, Masons met at the National Hotel where the Union Army soldiers were housed under Military Law to keep the gold shipped through San Juan safe from the many Confederate sympathizers who belonged to the Texas Lodge.
